Report: Coachella Music Festival Expands to New York

Organizers are eyeing Queens for next year.

The Coachella Music Festival is getting in a New York state of mind.

AEG Live, the entertainment giant behind Coachella, will expand the annual festival from California to Queens, the New York Daily News reports. The spin-off festival, tentatively titled Panorama, is billed for Flushing Meadows Corona Park next year.

It will reportedly launch two weeks after New York’s annual Governors Ball, which typically takes place in June. Governors Ball organizers aren’t excited about the potential competition. “The timing of this corporate-run festival would threaten our ability as a small business to continue putting on the kind of event that has showcased the best artists, created hundreds of local jobs and put millions of dollars back into the city’s economy,” said Tom Russell of Founder Entertainment, the company that puts on GB.

Coachella has been firmly planted on the West Coast since 1999. The festival now takes place over two consecutive weekends in Indio, Calif., and it's usually packed with celebs looking to mingle in the desert just like all the other music fans.

Past headliners include Kanye West, Outkast and Drake, who was the marquee act at Coachella and Governors Ball last year.
