Childish Gambino Booed Off Stage in Australia
UPDATE: Childish Gambino’s team emailed fans who attended the Newcastle show to invite them to this weekend’s Listen Out Festival in Sydney, Australia, where he performed a full-band set, reports EW. According to a source, the Newcastle performance was definitely intended to be a DJ set. “Regardless of whose error in communication that was, Gambino’s team takes it very seriously when fans are disappointed,” the source said. Word is the Lights Out show was worth the drama.

PREVIOUS: Some of the folks in Newcastle, Australia aren't too happy with Childish Gambino at the moment.
Reportedly, the rapper/singer was booed off the stage during a performance. Concertgoers say that he "barely uttered a word" during the first 40 minutes of his set.
According to the Newcastle Herald, The Cambridge Hotel gig took a turn after the crowd noticed he was spending the bulk of his set sitting at the back of the stage manning the turntables while members of his Royalty crew rapped for the crowd.
More confusion was added to the situation when it was reported that there was a discrepancy with the booking and promotion. It apparently wasn't clear whether the show was going to be a Gambino concert or a Gambino DJ set.
He later canceled the following night's set in Canberra, giving the reason that the Australian shows "had taken a toll."
The venue took to Facebook to post an apology to the disappointed attendees:
