Akon to Debut Forthcoming Albums on His New Streaming App

He's back!

Akon’s finally ready to make a comeback.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Akon revealed he plans on releasing his first albums in seven years through a new app. It’s called Stadium, which will allow fans to stream his songs for free. The catch is that you have to deal with ads, but if you click on them or share it with your friends on Facebook, users will earn credits. You can use those credits to buy things such as ringtones, wallpapers and Akon-styled emoji. It also means you can unlock more songs and unreleased videos.

"It's going to definitely regenerate the music business," he says, adding that it will be the answer to the music industry’s problems. “It's going to take someone like me to take the chance on it."

Akon’s first four albums for the Stadium app will each cover a different genre: world, house, urban and reggae. AP reports that his last album (pop) will be released sometime before March of next year. It will likely be through standard digital and physical releases on Atlantic Records, but it hasn't been confirmed yet.
Akon wants to make his music available for streaming legally. By going this independent route, he aims to serve his 60 million-plus followers on social media. According to him, about 200,000 people have registered for the Stadium app. It is set to release in the next couple of weeks.
