For many, hip hop is a lifestyle choice that often times crosses into becoming a family business. Such was the case with Chuck D and his father, Lorenzo Ridenhour, who passed earlier today (Feb. 9).
The Public Enemy frontman and Bomb Squad producer worked closely with his father, especially in the 1990s, with the two collaborating and co-owning the clothing line Rapp Style. Throughout his career, Chuck D, as well as his music partner-in-crime Keith Shocklee, looked to Ridenhour for business advice and wisdom.
Shockley broke the announcement on behalf of the family in a post on Facebook reading, “I want to send my deepest condolences to my friend, my partner, my homie, my brother Chuck D and to my extended family, The Ridenhours. We lost, and I can say this, our Dad, Mr. Lorenzo Ridenhour.”
“We will surely miss you and your stories about your life travels,” the heartfelt message continued. “You taught us so much about having your own business and you saw the blessing of what we became. I thank you for being there for us to teach and show us how to be MEN. May you rest easy. Show my brother @MrChuckD some love.”
Chuck D has yet to comment on the loss he is experiencing.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chuck D, Keith Shocklee and the entire Ridenhour family.
