How Did This Thoughtful Fan Have Coolio’s Back?

The 52-year-old’s performance was saved last night thanks to a generous fan.

Coolio, the now 52-year-old Grammy Award-winning rapper, hasn’t slowed down his career, despite getting older and spending the majority of his life suffering from chronic asthma.

Last night (Feb. 24) wasn’t an easy day at the office for the performer, who reportedly struggled during an impromptu performance at the Hill Country Barbecue Market in Brooklyn. Luckily, one thoughtful fan had his back.

During his five-song set, a fan provided an inhaler for Coolio to graciously use in between verses of “Gangsta’s Paradise,” in turn saving the performance and, of course, coming in clutch so the rapper could avoid a more serious incident.

The rapper has shared in past interviews that he hasn’t had the most pleasant time combating his asthma.

“I had a few episodes with asthma where I was in serious trouble and could have died,” Coolio shared back in 2002 during an interview with USA Today. “I had to realize I had a chronic disease which needs to be treated for as long as necessary.”

Coolio is currently slated to perform alongside Salt-N-Pepa this Saturday, Feb. 27, as part of an “I Love The ‘90s” showcase at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury.
