March 9 will always stand out in hip hop history as fans commemorate the tragic loss of Notorious B.I.G. by paying tribute on the anniversary of his death. 2016 marks nearly two decades since the Brooklyn-born rapper passed away, and hip hop sure does miss him.
While many stick to listening to the classics from his discography to celebrate his legacy on "Biggie Appreciation Day," others are drawing inspiration from the late iconic rapper to respectfully create new music.
Underground producers Mick and Chi Duly have teamed up to take on quite a brilliant task: putting Biggie’s vocals to production by Metro Boomin, who is best known for his work with Future. The result has been catching the ear of the Internet all day, clocking in at over 60,000 plays since it went live earlier this morning.
The tribute mixtape, aptly titled Ready to Boom, was created with a goal in mind to give a 2016 spin on some of Biggie’s most famous songs.
“We thought it would be cool to remix Biggie with a very contemporary vibe and kind of trap him out a little bit,” Mick told High Snobiety. “We wanted to introduce him to a new audience so they can appreciate his genius, too.”
