First Lady Michelle Obama made a keynote speech earlier this morning (March 16) at the 30th annual South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.
As an added bonus — and this is where Michelle Obama gains even more street cred — the first lady has released a curated all-female anthem featuring the talents of Kelly Clarkson, Missy Elliott, Lea Michele, Kelly Rowland and more. It's quite possibly one of the most epic all-female posse cuts in our recent history.
The track, titled “This Is for My Girls,” was arranged in celebration of the strength of women around the world and fits the theme of the Let Girls Learn global education movement. The campaign is helping to assist the millions of preteen girls who are denied the right to education. All involved with the track, which was executive produced by AOL Makers (AOL's women empowerment channedl), waived their royalty rights, ensuring that 100% of the proceeds will go to the charitable cause.
"It's kind of like 'We Are the World' meets 'Lady Marmalade' with these strong voices and strong women," Diane Warren, who wrote the song, shared in a recent interview. "When was the last time you heard a song like this or a record that had this many amazing divas on it? I'm really proud."
