Say what you want about Lyor Cohen but the man knows music. The record executive’s ear for innovation has landed him the respect of many.

That’s why he’s now got his own television show on CNBC. Follow The Leader gives people an inside look into Cohen’s dealings with both up-and-coming and established music acts. A recently surfaced clip of the show features Lyor and Young Thug in a meeting while surrounded by people of both sides. Thugga tells the Def Jam founder that he wants to drop 10 hits this year, to which Lyor of course would like to have, but advises him on how to do it.

“Ten? If you don’t freestyle, and you actually work on the singles and record great choruses and develop your songs,” he says. “You just record so many songs and leave them like little orphans out there. You have to come back to them.” Thug had a response for him, “The critics come back to them!” And he isn’t wrong.

Young Thug is known for not taking a while to create a song. He’s said in the past he’s recorded hits like “Stoner” and “Danny Glover” in under an hour.
