When Beyoncé dropped her visual album LEMONADE over the weekend, the internet basically caught on fire. One lyric in particular — alluding to the woman that Jay Z supposedly cheated with as someone named “Becky with the good hair” — has been standing out and starting all sorts of conversations.

Iggy Azalea, for one, was not amused by the name Bey chose to highlight in her song, referring to “Becky” as an offensive and racist term used to stereotype white women. 

Azalea voiced her issues with the racial intent behind the name, going as far as to say that it’s the same as all Black men being referred to as “Deshawn,” all Black women being called “Sha Nay Nay” and calling all Asian women “Ming Lee.”

Azalea backed up her tweet with a huge Twitter rant explaining her position, going on to clarify that her problem with the name has nothing to do with Beyoncé or her album.

“Do you know how many times I’ve been called BECKY?” the rapper wrote. “It didn’t have any kind of positive intention behind it. Generalizing ANY race by calling them one stereotypical name for said race, I personally don’t think it’s very cool. The point is: no one likes to be called out their name or generalized.”
