The twitpic re-tweeted over the weekend turned out to be a hoax.

McDonald’s is doing damage control over a hoax that will not die.

Over the weekend, a photo claiming that McDonald’s was charging African-American customers an extra $1.50 as an “insurance measure” because the store had been recently robbed in a string of robberies was making the Internet rounds.

Outrage ensued and people took to Twitter using the hashtag #SeriouslyMcDonalds to slam the company.

In a response on Saturday to dispel the rumors, McDonald’s tweeted, "That pic is a senseless & ignorant hoax McD's values ALL our customers. Diversity runs deep in our culture on both sides of the counter."

Sadly, the photo isn’t even new and reared its ugly head last year.

The sign is obviously a fake, and as Yahoo! News points out, the number in the photo is that of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
