On Thursday, Keith Corley III, an African-American cop in Philadelphia, was arraigned after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his squad car while on duty on Aug. 11, according to a local Philadelphia news station.
The victim, a woman in her 30s, told police that Corley offered to give her a ride to an uptown bus terminal while she was waiting for a bus near a construction site in West Philadelphia.
According to police, instead of taking the woman to the terminal, Corley took her to an area near a recreation center and assaulted her in his vehicle.
He is being charged with rape, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, sexual assault, indecent exposure and official oppression. Corley’s gun and badge have been taken away and he has been suspended for 30 days with the intent to be dismissed, according to the police.
Corley was a four-year veteran of the force and a married father of step-children.
It’s unfortunate to hear that those who witness others breaking the law every day cannot apply the same law abiding standards to their own lives.
