Black Unemployment Makes Slight Dip in September
Job growth still too weak to make a dent in the national unemployment rate.
After a sluggish summer filled with little good news for Black job seekers, the U.S. Labor Department announced a modest gain for the month of September.
Black unemployment dropped from 16.7 to 16 percent last month. Black teen unemployment also showed improvement, dipping from 46.5 to 44.2 percent. The national unemployment rate held steady at 9.1 percent.
The agency reported that employers have added an average of only 72,000 jobs over the past five months. The economy must create twice as many in order to keep up with population growth.
