Detroit police officers Larry Nevers and Walter Budzyn, both white, were charged with second-degree murder in the death of Malice Green, a Black man. Green died of head injuries after being beaten on an inner-city street near what was believed to be a crack house. The incident would echo the racial tensions raised by the Rodney King case. Both Budzyn and Nevers were found guilty in 1993, but a federal judge would later overturn their convictions.
