Leontyne Price makes her farewell performance at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House, singing the title role in Aida in 1985.


Also on this day, in 1971, the Congressional Black Caucus was organized. The organization, representing Black members of the United States Congress, puts emphasis on creating economic opportunity, access to education and health care reform.
