Hurricane Sandy: How You Can Help

Text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

Hurricane Sandy has been estimated to cause as much as $10 billion in damages and losses. While the government will be able to assist people in repairing their homes, there is not going to be enough to help everyone.

If you seek to help, please text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief, which helps people affected by disasters such as Hurricane Sandy and also floods, earthquakes, wildfires and tornadoes.

If your home has become uninhabitable as a result of Sandy and you need to find a shelter, you can download the Red Cross Hurricane app, visit the Red Cross website, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767), or check local media outlets. Please also register on the Red Cross Safe and Well website, a secure and easy-to-use online tool that helps families connect during emergencies. To register, visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). This site also connects with the Twitter and Facebook accounts of users.

"This will be a large, costly relief response and we need help now,” said Charley Shimanski, senior vice president of Disaster Services for the Red Cross. "People can help by making a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief online, by text or by phone."
