Newly Released Photo Shows a Bloody George Zimmerman

George Zimmerman's defense lawyers released a photo of their client with a bloody face, which they say was taken the night Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin.

George Zimmerman's defense lawyers released a new photo Monday of their client with a bloody face that they say was taken Feb. 26, 2012, the night Trayvon Martin was killed.
Zimmerman attorney Mark O'Mara told CNN that the photo shows "what George was going through that night and why he reacted the way he did" when he killed Trayvon. O'Mara added that he believes that if this photo had been released immediately after the shooting it would have quelled the anger against his client.
"This is a photo of George Zimmerman taken by a police officer on the night of Feb. 26, 2012," the attorneys wrote on Zimmerman's legal defense site. "A black and white photocopy of this image was provided by the state in the first discovery. This high-resolution digital file was finally provided to the defense on Oct. 29, 2012."
Benjamin Crump, the Trayvon Martin family lawyer, has dismissed the photo, saying it was not significant.

Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder in the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was unarmed. Zimmerman, a former neighborhood watch volunteer, has pleaded not guilty, insisting that he shot the teenager in self-defense. He has invoked Florida’s controversial "Stand Your Ground" law, which allows people to use deadly force in instances where they feel threatened.
