Letters about gun violence written by young voices were read today as President Obama presented his gun control proposals.
"It's a free country but I recommend there needs (to) be a limit with guns," 8-year-old Grant Fritz wrote to Obama on Dec. 17, three days after the shooting. "Please don't let people own machine guns or other powerful guns like that."
And 10-year-old Taejah Goode echoed the same sentiments in her own letter. "I am writing to ask you to STOP gun violence. I am very sad about the children who lost their lives. So, I thought I would write to you to STOP gun violence."
Fritz and Goode and other students were on stage with Obama as he presented a $500 million gun violence package that would require more extensive restrictions on gun ownership. 
Ahead of Obama's policy move on Tuesday, New York became the first state to pass a tighter gun control law since the Newtown shooting. Gov. Andrew Cuomo's NY SAFE Act requires background checks, comes with stricter penalties and bans magazines and semi-automatic military-style rifles and pistols.
