Kimani Gray's Family Files Notice of Claim Against New York City

Kimani Gray's parents have filed a notice of claim against New York City and plans to file a lawsuit for excessive force and pain and suffering.

The parents of Kimani Gray, who was shot dead by two NYPD police officers in Brooklyn, New York, in March, plan to file a wrongful death suit against the city.

They have already filed a notice of claim with Gray’s sister against the city last week, according to TheGrio.com.
The suit is for excessive force against Kimani and also for pain and suffering. Kenneth Montgomery, the family’s lawyer, says that witness accounts of the deadly shooting in the East Flatbush neighborhood conflict with those of the officers who shot Gray.
"I have been to the scene seven times and had the opportunity to review witness accounts and it all contradicts with what police are saying," Montgomery told the Grio. "From looking at where the body was recovered, he was not in an area to run away. He was trapped."

Police shot at Kimani after they say he pointed a revolver at them. He was struck by seven bullets, with three hitting him in the back. His family believes that their son was innocent and did not point the gun.

Kimani's shooting is still being investigated by the Brooklyn district attorney's office.
