Obama Heading west to Survey OK Tornado Damage

President Obama will travel to Oklahoma on Sunday to visit with survivors of the tornado that struck the area earlier this week.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said that the president will "see first-hand the response to the devastating tornadoes and severe weather that have impacted the area" and will visit with affected families, as well as thank first responders.

Carney also said that Obama has called for the federal government to provide "all available resources to support the response."

The tornado killed 24 people and destroyed homes and an elementary school in Moore, a suburb of Oklahoma City with about 41,000 residents.

In brief remarks delivered Tuesday, the president acknowledged that the victims and survivors have a long road ahead to recovery, particularly with regard to the emotional wounds sustained, but he added, "You will not travel that path alone. Your country will travel it with you."
