Zimmerman Trial Day 3: Still No Jurors Seated
As day three of the George Zimmerman second-degree murder trial came to a close Wednesday, neither defense nor prosecution attorneys have selected a single juror.
Wednesday at the Seminole County Courthouse lawyers questioned 10 potential jurors. About two dozen candidates have been interviewed out of the initial pool of 500 Sanford, Florida, area residents. At least 70 jury candidates have been dismissed; some based on their responses to the survey.
Attorneys seem to be having trouble finding jurors that have not been influenced by the media coverage of this high profile case. They even stopped questioning a potential juror after his responses indicated he could not be impartial.
The man referred to as perspective juror “R-39” said Wednesday that “Murder is murder,” even if it’s self-defense.
Zimmerman, 29, has pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge for shooting and killing an unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The trial is expected to resume Thursday at 9:00 a.m. ET.
