Berry Gordy, the legendary founder of Motown Records, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Oct. 24, 1996.
Gordy founded Motown in 1959 in Detroit. The label was responsible for launching the music careers of many international African-American superstars such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, the Supremes and many other household names. The label is currently housed under the Island Def Jam Music Group.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a 15-block long stretch along Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles. Gordy's terrazzo and brass star is located at 7000 Hollywood Blvd. between Highland Avenue and LaBrea Avenue.
