The curious case of Charity Johnson reads out of a fictional novel, but it is very real. The 34-year-old, who posed as an orphaned teenager for seven months in Longview, Texas, has been arrested.
Her plan to disguise as "Charite Stevens" came to an end when New Life Christian School staff discovered her identification was fake on Tuesday. Johnson enrolled in the school last October.
Tamica Lincoln took guardianship of Johnson in March. Johnson told her she was abused by her biological father. Lincoln contacted the police as soon as she suspected fraud.
"I just don't know why she did it. Why put yourself and others at risk to do something like this?" Lincoln told KLTV. "I have deep concerns about her being who we don't know she is, and then she's out there at the school."
Johnson even took her act to social media by posting pictures of Hello Kitty and with her best friend, one of her classmates, on Facebook and Instagram accounts.
She is charged for failing to give identify/giving false identification and fictitious information and being held on $500 bail.
