The first weekend of summer ended with five people killed and 24 injured this past weekend across the city of Chicago. A 15-year-old boy was among the victims.
DeKarlos Scott and his 16-year-old friend were standing on a corner Saturday, when a person got out of a car and shot at them. Their attacker fled the scene right after. Scott was pronounced dead at the scene in the Roseland neighborhood at about 10:10 p.m., according to the Chicago Tribune.
Taurus Williams, 23, was shot in the chest in the Morgan Park neighborhood and pronounced dead at 5:37 p.m. on Saturday after being transported to a medical center. Another male victim was reportedly killed in Roseland on Sunday. His name and age was not given. Ovadiyah Chandler, 34, was killed in Hyde Park on Sunday, according to Red Eye Chicago.
In the meantime, the daughter of Muhammad Ali, Rasheda Ali-Walsh, is joining the effort to help relieve gun violence in the Windy City. She is planning a charity boxing exhibition to raise money for youth programs and scholarships, according to the Associated Press.
"We all need to do more to put a stop to the violence and to show our young people that there is a peaceful and productive way out," Ali-Walsh said in a statement.
