Chicago Gun Violence: 5 Killed, 40 Injured This Past Weekend
On the last weekend of September, 40 people were injured and five were killed in gun violence across Chicago, the Chicago Tribune reports. A 13-year-old boy was the youngest of the victims.
Demureye Macon was struck Sunday night in his torso in Marquette Park and was pronounced dead at the scene. Miguel Hernandez, 24, was shot in the head Sunday while he sat on his front porch by a bullet that came from a drive-by shooting. He was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Jose Rios, 23, was struck by bullets Sunday morning by an individual who came out of a vehicle. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Malachi Baldwin was the fourth homicide victim. The 27-year-old was shot in the head Friday night in an alley. Baldwin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deandre Ellis, 22, was identified by police as the fifth victim. Ellis was killed after being shot in the chest Friday afternoon. The young man succumbed to his injuries and died at a medical center nearby.
In 2014, at least 266 people have died from gunshot wounds in Chicago, according to Red Eye Chicago's homicide tracker.
