Missouri Teenagers Hit the Football Field in Blackface

School officials noticed the face paint, but did not advise the students to take it off.

Earlier this week, protests over a Dutch blackface character Black Pete at a Christmas celebration in the Netherlands led to 90 arrests. Now, another case is circulating through social media, but this time it's much closer to home. A few teenage girls are under scrutiny after photos of their powderpuff football team in blackface hit social media.

On Nov. 5, the senior girls at Sullivan High School in Missouri showed up to their annual powderpuff game in black face paint. Jennifer Schmidt, the principal of Sullivan High School, told the Daily Riverfront Times that upon seeing the girls take the field, she thought it might stir up some controversy, but opted not to take any action.
“I knew they didn’t mean anything by it, but, in hindsight, I should have made them wash it off and move on,” Schmidt told the St. Louis Dispatch.

The students were not disciplined for their racially offensive photos. However, the principal plans on banning face paint going forward.
