Family Seeks Answers in Mysterious Death of Deandre Joshua in St. Louis

A family is seeking answers in the mysterious death of Deandre Joshua, a 20-year-old who was found dead in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his head and his body set on fire last week.

A week after Deandre Joshua, 20, was found in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head and his body set on fire in the parking lot of the Northwinds Apartments in Ferguson, Mo., his family is seeking answers in his mysterious homicide.

“The unknown is what scares me,” his mother, Maria, 39, told The New York Times. “I don’t know what happened to him.”

Police have not arrested any suspects in the case. They do not have a clear answer in how he died. Joshua has been the only death during the unrest, protests and riots that have taken over the St. Louis suburb since news of the grand jury's decision not to indict Darren Wilson for killing Michael Brown.

In the hours before his death, Joshua had left his aunt's home to visit the apartment of a woman, his mother told the Times. Authorities are trying to uncover how he ended up in the parking lot that night.
Joshua's mother is raising $10,000 for his funeral, as he died without life insurance. So far, the GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $7,400 in five days.
