Three Missouri Teens Charged in Murder of 14-Year-Old Black Girl
The family of a 14-year-old Black girl found beaten and fatally shot at a Kansas City waterpark wants the death penalty for the three teenage suspects charged in her murder, WDAF reports.
Isaac “Malik” Carter, 17, Dominic McDaniel, 18, and Ce-Antonyo D. Kennedy, 17, have been charged with armed criminal action for the Jan. 11 murder of Alexis Kane in the first-degree. The three suspects appeared in court on Monday.
“I was hurt because nobody didn’t show any sorry, they didn’t show anything,” LaShonda Kane, Alexis’s mother, told WDAF after the court appearance. “In fact, one of them kind of smiled at me so that was, so that was pretty hard to deal with. I don’t see how he thought it was funny.”
Kane's friends reportedly told police that she had been in contact with Carter on Facebook and claimed she asked them to bring her to a gas station to meet with "Malik." Kane then entered the suspect's car upon her arrival.
KCTV reports that her friends urged Kane not to get into the vehicle and followed the vehicle when it left the scene. When they lost track of the vehicle, Kane's friend allegedly told the young girl to turn on her cell phone's location service.
The victim was only with the suspects for an hour before they brutally assaulted her and took turns shooting her.
According to court documents, prosecutors have surveillance video footage of the tragic incident captured during various parts of the night. McDaniel, Carter and Kennedy are currently being held on separate $500,000 cash bonds until their next court appearance on Monday, Feb. 23.
“It’s a long process now, so we just ask for prayers,” William Berry, Alexis’s grandfather, told WDAF. “We thank God that justice is going to be served. They caught them. They’re off the streets.”
