A documentary detailing the life and controversial death of Jordan Davis will soon be available on HBO, Variety reports.

"When we started this journey, our aim was to make sure that Jordan's story was not going to be forgotten, that he would not become a statistic in an increasingly violent world," 3 1/2 Minutes' filmmaker, Marc Silver, said in a statement. "We are now certain that Jordan's story will reach the widest, most diverse audience possible."

In November 2012, Michael David Dunn, now 48, shot Davis several times after the Black 17-year-old refused to turn down his loud music while in his car with friends at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida. Davis's shooter was convicted of murder, attempted murder and shooting into a vehicle and sentenced to life in prison.

3 1/2 Minutes won the special jury award for special impact for U.S. documentary at this year's Sundance Film Festival. The film will air on HBO following its theatrical release.

"I am grieved that these continuing stories are everyday matters swept away," HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins said in a statement. "By bringing this powerful film to HBO audiences, we hope to elevate the national conversation around these tragic issues."
