Unlike many other young Blacks who have been victimized by police, Frenswa Raynor survived an attack by an Oakland officer in April 2013 and will receive $230,000 for his unnecessary troubles in a settlement with city officials, the Huffington Post reports. 
Raynor was followed by police who were responding to a restaurant robbery. The officer was told the suspects were teenagers, the SFGate reports. Raynor, 16, and his friends were stopped by police near the restaurant and Officer Bryan Clifford shot Raynor after believing he was reaching for something on his waist. 
Raynor's friend will receive $45,000 from the city, the San Jose Mercury News writes.
The teen was struck in the jaw by bullet fragments. He was taken to the hospital and after being treated spent the night in jail; he was not charged for any crime. Raynor's lawyers filed a lawsuit against the city and Clifford on claims that the teen "sustained injuries to his face," and "emotional distress and trauma" were "woefully unjustified," the SFGate reports.
