Rev. Al Sharpton: Are Texas Floods a Sign From God?
Amidst Texas's state of repair and recovery, Rev. Al Sharpton is sharing his thoughts on the state's unfortunate experience with the recent flood. Taking the Twitter, the activist posed the question that the natural disaster is a punishment from God.
"#KeepingItReal QOTD: Do you think the #TexasFlooding is related to climate control or God's rebuke?," he tweeted before posting a phone number for his followers to call into his radio show.
The MSNBC host then went on to say that many of his callers deemed the Texas flooding as a "divine rebuke," with it being a punishment for the world having gone morally astray, reported the Houston Chronicle. "Some people said that they felt that the world had lost its morals, that homosexuality and same-sex marriage, which I support, caused it," he said. "Many called and said they thought that was absurd, that it was science. My position is that science is right."
In the meantime, Texas is still in a state of grief as more evacuations continue to take place, in addition to the most recent death toll increase. According to CBS News, officials in several southeastern Texas communities ordered that new evacuations be conducted late Friday (May 29) as the rain-swollen bayous and rivers were expected to flood even further.
In addition, more deaths are being reported with four more bodies being found on Friday, increasing the death toll to 21 in Texas and six in Oklahoma. 11 people are also still reported as missing in Texas.
A flash flood watch has been issued for most of the affected region in the state through Sunday morning as a necessary precaution.
