The confederate flag is seeing its final day on the South Carolina State Capitol as the State Senate passed a bill calling for its removal Thursday morning. Gov. Nikki Haley swiftly signed it, and the controversial symbol will officially be brought down on Friday morning.
Before the vote, Republican South Carolina representative Jenny Horne of Dorchester County stood at the podium of the House floor and made it clear that the state no longer had time to prolong pulling the flag down.

"I cannot believe that we do not have the heart in this body to do something meaningful such as take a symbol of hate off these grounds on Friday," said Rep. Horne as she began sobbing. "And if any of you vote to amend you are ensuring that this flag will fly beyond Friday. And for the widow of Clementa C. Pinckney and his two young daughters that would be adding insult to injury."
Horne said by keeping the flag up, it was telling the people of Charleston that their representatives do not care about them. She added that it time to let tradition go. "I'm sorry. I have heard enough about heritage. I have a heritage. I am a life-long South Carolinian. I am a descendant of Jefferson Davis. But that doesn't matter. It's not about Jenny Horne."
Jefferson Davis was the president of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War.
Horne concluded that this was an urgent matter and that the world was watching the debate. "We need to follow the example of the Senate. Remove the flag and do it today. Because
this issue is not getting any better with age. Thank you."
