Hotel Manager Mocks Sandra Bland's Death

A Kansas City hotel supervisor has been fired for hanging a slave doll in the hallway.

A hotel manager at the Adams Mark Hotel in Kansas City, Mo., hung a slave doll in an office hallway using a garbage bag as a noose, seemingly mocking the death of Sandra Bland.
The racist act was captured by one of the hotel’s employees on July 21 and forwarded to legal counsel. Attorney Stacey Shaw released the photo on Monday through her Twitter account along with the hashtags #blacklivesmatter, #sandrabland and #adamsmarkdoll.

“I was deeply disappointed and outraged that in 2015 in a city that I love that there could be such blatant intolerance and racism that was present in the workplace,” Shaw said.

She also plans to organize an anti-racism rally.

On July 10, 28-year-old Sandra Bland was arrested by a state trooper for a minor traffic violation in Waller County, Texas. Three days later, she was found dead in her jail cell due to what has been ruled a suicide by an autopsy report. Bland allegedly hung herself using a trash bag. Before her death, Bland was known for posting videos protesting police brutality.

The hotel’s general manager, John Parker, described the incident as “completely inconsistent” with the hotel’s values.

“Immediately following the investigation, the employee was terminated, Friday, July 24th, prior to the start of their next shift. The Adam’s Mark Kansas City is committed to maintaining a positive working environment free of unlawful harassment,” Parker said in a statement.
