Former Detroit Cop Found Guilty of Two Charges for Floyd Dent Beating
A former Detroit police officer has been found guilty of assault in the bloody beating of Floyd Dent, the Associated Press reports.
William Melendez was convicted of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and misconduct in office. He was found not guilty of assault by strangulation. He was charged in January for the attack on 58-year-old Dent.
Dent was stopped for failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. In a dashcam video, Melendez is seen punching Dent in the head 16 times. Dent suffered broken ribs, blood on his brain and several other injuries.
The city of Inkster, a suburb of Detroit, agreed to pay $1.4 million to Dent.
