San Francisco Prep School Kids Suspended for Throwing Racist Party

Ever heard of a "wigga"?

Fourteen students at the predominately white St. Ignatius College Prep School in San Francisco have been suspended for throwing a racist-themed party.

The kegger was called a “wigga” party, referring to a slang term that's a cross between "white" and the n-word, and refers to white kids deliberately emulating Black stereotypes. Up to 100 students from all over the Bay Area attended the party on January 23, but faced major backlash when the photos were posted on Instagram and other social media pages.

Despite the fact that many students who do not attend St. Ignatius attended the party, the prestigious school is the first to take action regarding the racist party. “It’s so contradictory to who we are and who we want to be,” St. Ignatius principle Patrick Ruff told a local News Channel.

The school also released a statement on their website regarding the incident, and subsequent suspensions. “Over the years, we have done much work in the area of diversity through the school’s Office of Equity and Inclusion, which is an integral part of our school community," the statement reads. "Clearly, however, we have more work ahead of us in forming adolescents to be their best selves.”
