As reported by Gawker, several protesters were dragged out of a Donald Trump rally in New Orleans on Friday night and were forcefully removed from the chaotic scene by members of his security detail (March 4).
“Secret service and Trump’s security team were part of that crew, but so were civilians, who were allowed to push, kick and shove the protesters,” said reporter Amy K. Nelson, who captured some video as part of the crowd.
“I personally witnessed a black woman, a white woman and an Asian man get shoved down to the ground (they were not falling on purpose like one reporter claimed),” Nelson said, recounting the protest.
As reported, mixes of “Black Lives Matter” and “All Lives Matter” chants were shouted from protesters and civilians alike, while several shoving matches ensued.
“It was state sanctioned by the cops and security,” Nelson said. “A free-for-all, essentially. It was distressing.”
Trump himself was allegedly directing security to remove protestors, while his supporters cheered him on.
“Tonight was the most intense rally I've witnessed so far on the trail,” said NBC News reporter Ali Vitali, posting a video clip herself.
“Trump supporters were antagonistic and it was very vile. They got into it, on both sides. I’m very surprised it didn’t result in more violence,” Nelson said.
