Bernie Sanders and his wife, Jane, applauded a young mother for breastfeeding her baby during his recent rally in Berea, Ohio, but not all were cheering.

Margaret Ellen Bradford felt the burn after sharing a photo on Facebook of her nursing her 6-month-old daughter, Harper, in the second row at the event.

“So my boobs went viral today but it’s OK because it was Bernie Sanders,” she wrote on FB. 

The image, captured by a photographer in attendance, went viral and soon after the hate mail and death treats began.

Comments included “telling me my daughter should be taken away or that I’m just an uneducated lowlife hick,” Bradford added.

Still, not all the responses were negative. Sanders’s campaign tweeted their support of Bradford, writing, “As a society, we should never stigmatize women for breastfeeding in public.”

The Ohio breastfeeding advocate and mother of three children all under the age of four is now encouraging other moms to post photos feeding their babies in public with the hashtag #boobsforbernie.
