Every red-blooded American city loves to compete for bragging rights. Whether it's whose sports team is better or which city has the best food, being number 1 is a notch on any city’s belt.
The city of Baltimore has just received a notch, as far as Twitter is concerned: Charm City, you lead the nation in racial slurs against African-Americans! The competition was stiff, but Baltimore edged out such cities as Atlanta, New Orleans and Newark.
Baltimore led the pack with 82 anti-Black tweets per 100,000. The statistics come from a study, titled "America's most P.C. and prejudiced places.” The report analyzed 12 million tweets between the years of 2014 and 2015. According to Abodo, the online company which conducted the study, the highest number of remarks about a particular group correlates with states and cities with the largest populations of those groups.
So cities like Baltimore have a higher rate of pejorative tweets about African-Americans because Baltimore has a high African-American population. For instance Buffalo, New York, leads the nation in homophobic tweets.
If this trend continues Los Angeles California will most likely lead the nation in offensive tweets against Marcia Clark’s perm on the hit TV series The People v. O.J. Simpson. Only time will tell.
