Can’t 'Makeup' Why This Woman’s Labor Pictures Went Viral

When you make sure to beat your face even while you’re feeling beat.

Beauty blogger Alaha Majid was determined to be gram-ready the second her newborn baby was introduced to the world.

The New York makeup artist set the Internet ablaze when she shared photos from her special day in the hospital awaiting the arrival of her “princess.”

The 27-year-old new mom didn’t let one second of her labor pass without putting it to good use. So when there was a lull in between contractions, she preceded to lay out a full makeup kit, including false eyelashes, and put on her glam face.

“Yes, I was doing my makeup while I was in labor!” she captioned one photo. “I was pausing during contractions and picking up where I left off once the contractions passed.”

Thankfully, Majid wasn’t in it alone.

“When the contractions got too strong, hubby was there to save the day!” she captioned another snapshot of her man applying the makeup for her.

After the pics went viral, Majid told BuzzFeed News, “I didn’t really think it was a big deal that I decided to do my makeup while in labor.

“My sister was awesome enough to take photos of the process and all I did was post them,” Majid continued. “Next thing I know, the pictures were an overnight Internet sensation!”

Don’t get it twisted. Majid wasn’t exactly focused on applying her flawless makeup the entire time. After all, she was having a baby! Still, with some labors lasting for several hours, there was plenty of time to get things done.

“I also love to read and during the first few hours that is exactly what I did, however, reading for a few hours started to give me a headache so I figured I’d pull out my makeup bag and get to ‘baking,’” she said.

With her doctor’s blessing, Majid applied her foundation, fake lashes, shimmery eye shadow and mate lipstick. Still, some haters threw shade at her for “putting looks before the baby.”

“Anyone who has been through labor knows that it’s a waiting game,” Majid explained. “What I was doing didn’t put my baby at risk and it didn’t interfere with my labor one bit.”

If nothing else, her overnight celebrity is definitely a unique way to promote her business.

“I would actually advise other women to do the same!” she said. “Don’t make yourself miserable during labor, do something you love! As long as your doctor is OK with it, cake that foundation on and enjoy your day!”
