[Update] Arrest Made in Murder of 16-Year-Old Jorion White

A mother’s worst nightmare.

Daniel Beckley, 40, was arrested in Louisiana and is now facing charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Police believe that Beckley is connected to the murder of 16-year-old Jorion White, who happens to be the daughter of his girlfriend, Michelle Price.

White was last seen on April 21, and her body was found two days later in a drainage canal. Beckley was immediately considered a suspect because he was the last one to have custody of Jorion. Michelle has asked him to take care for her daughter while she worked overnight.

During questioning, Beckley denied having anything to do with the murder of the girl, yet detectives continued to question his plea. His DNA was taken during initial questioning and a lie detector test was suggested.

Out of respect for the family, police are not releasing the cause of death or discussing the physical afflictions found on Jorion’s body. St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne, who is overseeing the case, says that surveillance videos from the area are proving to be “very meaningful and substantial.”

Champagne also came to Michelle’s aide when observers tried to blame her for leaving her daughter alone. When speaking on Michelle’s parenting skills, Champagne said, “She was a caring mother. Any suggestion to the contrary that she was not fully caring and totally dedicated to her daughter’s safety is ill advised and erroneous. She is hurting badly now, and we believe if there was anything she could have done — or would have known ahead of time — to prevent her daughter from meeting this horrific early end to her young life, she would have done so.”
