KTLA Los Angeles meteorologist Liberté Chan was recently humiliated during a live weather broadcast. Now, there are many newscasters out there who need no help in embarrassing themselves, like that anchor that let the hood come out. However, this situation was different because Chan was more or less told to cover up by male news anchor Chris Burrous.

Before the broadcast, Chan posted a video of herself dancing an old-time step in a sparkly, beaded dress. She explained that the outfit she was previously wearing interfered with the green screen behind her, so she made a change into the only other outfit she had.

During the broadcast, Chan delivers a pretty typical weather forecast until a magical cardigan appears out of nowhere. When she looks at Burrous in a confused way, he responds, “We’re getting a lot of emails.” Apparently, many viewers of the news station found her outfit “inappropriate.”

Sure, the dress is sparkly and looks like something that should be worn to a cocktail party, but it didn’t reveal anything except her bare arms. And unless you’re telling us that arms are too sexual for morning news, we are going to need ya’ll to take a seat. Besides, there is literally a weather program where women strip as they deliver the news. Seriously!

After the event seemed to garner more attention than they hoped, Burrous took to Twitter to offer an apology and Chan even stepped in to quiet the backlash. In a blog post, she said, “I was not ordered by KTLA to put on the sweater. I was simply playing along with my co-anchor’s request, and if you’ve ever watched the morning show, you know we poke fun at each other all the time.” Her post definitely kept the peace and made sure to avoid any potential riffs between herself and her employers.

Regardless of whether or not Burrous’s actions were called for, the bulk of the debate comes from the notion that this would never have happened to a man. Did we ever tell iconic NBA sideline reported Craig Sager to take it easy on the neon? Or for Russell Westbrook to wear something normal for a change? Of course not. So why the double standard? Hopefully, it was just a network concern and had nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman, and her body can only be viewed by some as an overly sexualized object.
