[Rise of the Machines] GPS Tries to Kill a Woman

She barely escaped with her life

The terminator. Ultron. Bender. Killer robots have been predicted in our future for decades. Now it's a frightening reality.

A drive on a foggy night ended up leaving one young woman cold and wet without her car.

The 23-year-old driver from Kitchener, Ontario, whose name has not been released, was following her GPS late Thursday in Tobermory, Ontario, when she took a wrong turn and plunged into Little Tub Harbour. The directions instructed to take a right but she drove forward into the lake about 30 meters off course.

Luckily she was able to roll her window down and escape before the vehicle was completely submerged in the cold water. The young woman swam to shore and called for help.

Police blame the inclement weather, which made it difficult to see. The driver reported no injuries.

As for her car, the harbor was closed briefly Friday morning while a tow truck removed the vehicle from the lake.

Police spokeswoman Katrina Rubinstein-Gilbert said, “From speaking with the driver, she is doing well and is a very positive person.”
