In Toledo, Ohio, two men are accused of inciting a racially motivated attack. 33-year-old Adrian Williams remembers loading tools into the back of his truck when two white men he’d never met began to verbally and physically attack him.
Charles Edward Butler, 33, and Robert Allen Paschalis, 25, pulled up next to Williams in a pick-up truck. They began to use racial and homophobic slurs to insult him. Williams told ABC 13 that as the two men drove by, they called him a f*g. After Butler and Paschalis turned their vehicle around, they jumped out of the car and called Williams then n-word.
After seeing the men jump out of the vehicle, Williams attempted to prepare to defend himself. Williams claimed, “When he jumped out, I grabbed a bat out of my truck hoping that they would back up and go about their business.”
However, the men did not just go about their business. Instead, Butler grabbed a broomstick from Williams’s truck and hit him over the head with it. Meanwhile, Paschalis repeatedly punched the victim in the face.
Two men from a rim shop saw the beating and came to defend Williams. It wasn’t until they told the assailants to leave Williams alone that the beating stopped. Williams suffered from a fractured eye socket and had bruises all over his body.
The two attackers were arraigned and Butler is being held on $75,000 bond while Paschalis is held on $50,000 bond.
