Shocking: Here's the Crazy, Senseless Way This Woman Died at the Beach

You'll never look at beach umbrellas the same way again.

A day at the beach turned deadly for a woman in Chester, Virginia.
Lottie Michelle Belk, 55, has died of her injuries she suffered after being stabbed by a beach umbrella that was caught up in the wind. Virginia Beach police responded to the emergency call just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday after Belk suffered her injuries, she was taken to the hospital but later died from her injuries.

According to WTKR the umbrella was anchored, but a strong gust of wind blew it across the sand.

One witness, Hugh Martin, said, “It kind of looked like something out of the Wizard of Oz." Adding, “I saw the umbrella go up in the air, and it hit the woman, literally knocking her to the side. Immediately, the lifeguards, people started rushing around. It was probably one of the scariest things I have ever seen.”

It is a tragic loss, made even more sad by the fact that it could have been so easily avoided.
