Got 'Em: Hackers Flood ISIS Twitter Page With Gay Porn

Beat them at their own game.

The Islamic State Twitter page recently experienced a hijacking of its own. After the Orlando shooting was credited to ISIS, their social media site was hacked by a member of the online hacker group Anonymous. A hacker who goes by the alias WauchulaGhost has taken down all the Jihadist propaganda images and replaced them with images of gay pride and links to gay porn.

The Orlando attack targeted a gay club, and this hack appears to be in tribute to the victims of the Pulse shooting and the people of Orlando. During a conversation with the Washington Post, WauchulaGhost explained, “Daesh doesn’t like porn,” referring to the Islamic State in Arabic.

“They don’t like women in general,” he continued, “We just started using it to poke fun at them and diminish their presence online.”

In taking over the very tool that ISIS has used to recruit, the hacker has undermined and crippled them at their technological hub. However, some find the use of porn to be a possibly offensive strategy. Ryan Calo, an assistant professor at the University Of Washington School of Law, believes that the use of porn could be offensive to religious Muslims.

Although there are some objections, WauchulaGhost made sure to answer them. In speaking to the use of porn, Ghost said, “We aren’t using graphic porn and our purpose is not to offend Muslims. Our actions are directed at Jihadist extremists. Many of our own [group of hackers] are Muslim and we respect all religions that do not take innocent lives.”

WauchulaGhost is said to have hacked over 200 Twitter accounts owned by ISIS supporters; however, many have subsequently been removed by the site.
