Black Power: Here's How Issa Rae Raised Over 200K for the Family of Alton Sterling in a Day
After the devastating killing of Alton Sterling, many famous names have shown their support for the Sterling family. On Wednesday, writer and actress Issa Rae joined the thousands who have offered financial support. The Awkward Black Girl creator put together a gofundme scholarship for the Sterling children.
In the midst of the reactions to Sterling’s death, Rae tweeted:
The funding page was set up as a way to raise money that will go directly to the family by way of a scholarship. But, even she was shocked when the dollars came rolling in at lightening speeds.
Just nine hours after creating the fund, Rae raised over $200,000 for the Sterling family. She then graciously tweeted:
At this time, the donations have reached over $300,000 and continue to climb. You can donate to the Alton Sterling Family Scholarship fund by clicking here.
