Look: White Arkansas Cop Shining a Light on Positive Policing

We need more officers like Tommy Norman.

Published July 11th

Tommy Norman is an officer of the North Little Rock Police Department. He has been with the department since 1998 and, since the day he took the oath of the officer, he has made positive strides in the community.

Through social media, Officer Norman has shared many of the wonderful efforts he has made to act as a partner to some of the tough neighborhoods of Arkansas. In a time where we are seeing too many Black faces fall victim to the prejudices of officers, Norman shows us how policing can work to make a difference in those disenfranchised communities.

Some of the photos and videos he shares on Instagram show him delivering juice and water to kids of the neighborhood. Others show him sitting down with children to share a meal and a conversation.

Although Norman has posted many photos online, most of them seem to have one thing in common: he is positively engaging with young Black men and women in the community.

Check out some of the photos of Officer Norman below and let’s hope he inspires more officers to be like him.
