Full Story Behind This Father and Son Who Drugged and Raped a Student During a College Orientation
Shawn Childs Jr. and Shawn Childs Sr. face multiple criminal charges after being accused of sexual assault.
Nineteen-year-old Childs Jr. allegedly assaulted a female student during Preview, a two-day summer orientation held by Illinois State University. During the orientation, students stay in the campus dorms and parents who wish to accompany their children are able to stay on different floors.
The two were getting to know other students in the dorms when Childs Sr. offered to buy alcohol for the minors. Childs then went to a local store and returned with alcohol for the students. Sometime around 10 or 11 p.m., the victim of the assault claims she witnessed Childs Sr. slip a pill into the soda she was drinking.
The victim then felt ill and went back to her dorm room, where Childs Jr. followed her inside and allegedly raped her twice.
The next morning, she reported the incident to officials, and the father and son were arrested the next day at the Uptown Train Station, where they were waiting to travel home to Chicago. At the time of the arrest, Childs Sr. had 22 ecstasy pills in his pocket.
The two are scheduled to be arraigned on Friday. Childs Jr. has no priors on his record, but his father has a record that includes previous convictions for attempted murder, domestic battery and unlawful use of a weapon.
