The world of politics in America are perhaps as polarized as they have ever been as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump prepare for their first presidential debate. But just like she has so many times before, Michelle Obama took it upon herself to remind us that we're not as different as we sometimes believe.
At the opening ceremony of the African American History Museum, FLOTUS shared a quick hug with former president George Bush.
Both President Obama and former President Bush gave speeches at the event, focusing on the importance of American history and unity. "A great nation does not hide its history," Bush said. "It faces its flaws, and corrects them."
Obama focused on American Black history, stating that it is a crucial chapter of the entire American story. "We are America," he said. "And that's what this museum explains, the fact that our stories that our stories have shaped every corner of our culture."
While both presidents spoke eloquently, social media has focused on the unifying power of Michelle and George's hug.
With some turning the hug into a hilarious, light-hearted meme.

Of course Bush has his critics, the hug did an important job of reminding us that in the end, most leaders simply want what's best for their country.
While many were happy to see Bush leave the White House at the end of his second term, it's possible that even Democrats would prefer him to the possibility of a Donald Trump presidency. Hopefully the hug did enough to convince President Bush to vote Democrat this November.
