Alexandria Washington is a beauty and lifestyle blogger who posts helpful hair and makeup tutorials on her Instagram and YouTube pages. About 36 weeks ago, Alexandria posted a photo of her natural haircut to Instagram.
Although the photo is relatively old, this week Alexandria was shocked to learn that her photo was being used to sell a synthetic wig on the site DressLilly.com. After seeing the photo being used without her permission to sell wigs, which Alexandria has never worn, she contacted the company and asked them to remove the image.
After reaching out to the website, Alexandria was told that the company would open an “investigation” into the matter. However, she did not need an investigation; she simply wanted the photo removed.
Alexandria went back to the page to see if they followed through with her request and could not believe what she saw. Instead of removing the image, DressLilly.com replaced Alexandria’s face with the face of another woman.
Even Alexandria herself could not deny the hilarity in such an epic fail. It did not take long for the image to be re-circulated on Twitter, which prompted many people to royally drag the company and their poor Photoshop skills.
This incident made Alexandria question if her image was being used on other sites. After a quick search, she realized that her photo was being used on three other sites to sell wigs. She has reached out to the companies and instructed them to take the photos down. As a result of the story blowing up, the synthetic wig and photo of Alexandria that was used on DressLilly.com has been removed.
