On Friday, a father in Fresno, California, was sentenced to 1,503 years in prison for repeatedly raping his teenage daughter over a four-year period, reported the Fresno Bee.

41-year-old Rene Lopez received the longest recorded sentence in Fresno Superior Court history. When Fresno prosecutor Nicole Galstan asked Judge Edward Sarkisian Jr. to deliver the hefty sentence, Sarkisian happily obliged.

Lopez revealed that during the four-year period of assault — ending in 2013 — he would rape his daughter two or three times a week, even on Christmas.

Lopez sat in the courtroom while his daughter — whose identity has been kept private — shared her tragic story with the judge.

“When my father abused me, I was young. I had no power, no voice. I was defenseless,” said the daughter, who is now 23 years old. She also revealed to the the judge that her father never has shown remorse for the traumatic pain he caused.

The large sentence that Lopez received serves as a glaring contrast to the short 60-day sentence a Montana man received after admitting to raping his 12-year-old daughter.

In the Montana case, prosecutors recommended a mandatory 25-year sentence, 100 years with 75 suspended, for the repeated rape of the man’s daughter.

However, Judge Robert McKeon instead delivered a 30-year suspended prison sentence, which he will only serve if he violates his probation.

Additionally, McKeon gave him credit for the 17 days he already served, so he will only realistically serve 43 more days in jail.

When Lopez’s trial first began, he was offered several plea deals if he admitted his guilt. However, Lopez turned down each one and even called his daughter’s statements “hearsay.”

Judge Sarkisian praised Lopez's daughter for her bravery and said “you are a courageous young woman.”
